History

Saint Coleman parish in Pompano Beach was established in 1959 when it became clear that area’s growing population needed a church of their own. The area had been served by Our Lady of the Assumption Mission, but growth moved families west. The parish first founded a school, staffed by Franciscan Sisters from Illinois, with a small number of students and known as Our Lady of Assumption School. Two weeks before the school opened, however, Pope Pius XII divided the Saint Augustine Diocese, and the fledging parish named for the Bishop Coleman Carroll’s patron, Saint Coleman of Cloyne became the second within the newly designated Miami diocese. When the school opened in 1959, it was called Saint Coleman’s. One year later in 1960, the Bishop dedicated the church.

An annual Italian festival has helped fund a series of renovations and expansions. A new church was dedicated in 1986. With continuing growth, these improvements have served the parish community, including about 1,100 children enrolled in either the school or the Religious Education program. Facilities were updated in the 1990s with a multi-purpose building, computer and science labs, a media center, and a beautiful parish hall.

Se Misyon Our Lady Of Assumption (Notredam Asomsyon) ki te konn sèvi zòn nan, men devlopman fè fanmiy demenaje ale nan zòn Lwès. Aprè yon lane konsa, an 1960, Evèk la te inogire Legliz la.

Festival Italyen ki fèt chak lane ya te ede ranmase lajan pou reparasyon ak agrandisman. Yon Legliz tou nèf te inogire an 1986. Lokal yo the vin modènize nan lane 1990 yo e yo gen kote pou fè plizyè aktivite, te gen laboratwa infòmatik ak syans, yon bibliyotèk ansanm ak yon bèl sal pawasyal.
