This year, the school finished third for the third straight year and received a $250 award for the accomplishment. The money will be used to further enhance the gardens and environmental actions of the school.

The Fairchild Challenge, an annual, standards-based environmental education outreach program sponsored by the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, offers several challenges for elementary, middle, and high schools.
The program itself focuses on environmental awareness, but does much more than merely teach young people to appreciate the beauty and value of nature. Students are introduced to research practices and are taught the importance of activism. The Fairchild Challenge promotes science literacy, civic engagement, creative expression, and lifelong learning.

For St. Kevins 700+ students, the Fairchild Challenge brings education to the real world, teaching that individuals make the difference, as the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden website states. The Fairchild Challenge coordinators are Aselita Garcia and Caridad Unzueta.
