SOUTHWEST RANCHES - Four athletes from Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School had a lot to smile about on Nov. 14, which was National Letter of Intent Signing Day, also known as early commitment.

By signing a National Letter of Intent, it commits the student/athlete to their chosen college or university, said Tony Massaro, director of athletics at Archbishop McCarthy.

The student signing took place in the schools student center in front of family, friends, hundreds of classmates, faculty and administrators.

Stephanie Chaiser of Pembroke Pines signed with St. Joseph University to play softball.  Chaiser has been the starting catcher at McCarthy High for three of her four years. Stephanie suffered a shoulder injury, which ended her season last year. She has been able to rehabilitate the injury and will be back behind the plate this year and maintain her status as being one of the best catchers in the county.

Kori Beck of Weston signed with the University of Tampa to play lacrosse.  Beck is a four year starter and one of the better offensive players in Broward County.

Khayla Livingston of Hollywood signed with Cleveland State University to play basketball.  Livingston is a four year starter at point guard and is one of the better shooters in Broward County.

Michael Hernandez of Miramar signed with Nova Southeastern University for baseball. Hernandez has been on the defending three-time state championship Maverick baseball team all four years.  He has been the starting catcher the last two years. Defensively, he is one of the best in Broward County.
