Spiritual Companionship Program

New & Recertification for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The Office of Worship holds regular training sessions for those wishing to serve as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion in their parishes. Following are the basic requirements: Candidates will register through their parishes and must be recommended to the Office of Worship in a recommendation form signed by their Pastor.

To be commissioned as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion a person must:

  • Be designated by their Pastor or School Principal/Chaplain
  • Be a Catholic at least 18 year of age, who has been confirmed and leads a life in harmony with the Faith and the Ministry to be undertaken.
  • The workshop is for NEW and Recertification for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
There is no charge for the training.

Please note that registering for an EMHC workshop only guarantees admittance to the workshop. It does NOT guarantee a mandate from the bishop to participate in this ministry. A recommendation form with the pastor’s signature attesting to the candidate’s suitability must be emailed or faxed to the Office of Worship & Spiritual Life.

Camino del Matrimonio - ENGLISH

Camino is a marriage preparation program offered by the Archdiocese of Miami for couples that will be celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony in the Catholic Church. The program is offered on weekends and it is an opportunity to reflect upon your relationship through the dialog of talks that most affect the success of a marriage.
 
The talks will be on improving your communication as a couple, the different stages couples will experience during the relationship, individual needs, topics on family and relatives, parenting, finances, how to resolve conflicts, God  living in your marriage and much more.

If you have an interest in service to others, especially through supporting access to healthcare, St. John Bosco Clinic invites you to call us and see if we are a good match. We are looking for volunteers for the following duties:

Patient Registration: This position will be responsible to interview new patients and complete eligibility applications with primarily Spanish-speaking patients.

  • Position open Mondays, 12:30–4 p.m.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail. 

Telephone/Reception: This position will be responsible to answer telephones and be able to communicate with a primarily Spanish-speaking call volume.

  • Various positions are open Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Good communication skills.

Office Support – this position will primarily work with clinic staff in obtaining reports for the healthcare providers, doing computer work and assisting with other non-direct patient related support services.

  • Various positions open Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Good knowledge of computer work
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is helpful.
Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. Bilingual (English/Spanish). Ability to fluently communicate in Spanish is highly benefitial as most patients are primary Spanish speakers.

St. John Bosco Clinic is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine, Florida. Established in 1992, we aim to be an enduring presence providing care as long as there are underserved children and adults without access to healthcare. 

The strength of a free clinic lies in its volunteer support. Volunteers help strengthen the safety-net that cares for our community. Those served at St. John Bosco Clinic have different life stories, faces and nationalities. They are the young, old, working poor and the unemployed, but they share one very similar need: the need for healthcare and difficulty meeting that need for themselves and their families. The St. John Bosco Clinic is a safety-net for these families.

Camp Erin Grief Support Camp

Children affected by grief can feel isolated and alone.

Camp Erin is free non-denominational grief support camp for youth ages 6 to 17 years old grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. Camp Erin integrates traditional camp activities with grief education and emotional support. Activities include music, art, dance movement and pet therapies, as well as remembrance ceremonies for campers to honor and memorialize their loved ones. Camp Erin provides a unique opportunity for youth to increase levels of hope, enhance self-esteem, and learn that they are not alone in their grief.

Our next camp is on October 19-21, at Camp Owaissa Bauer in Homestead. Participation in Camp Erin is FREE and includes lodging, meals, transportation, and comfort gifts.
