University of Miami's Frost School of Music Doctoral Student in Choral Conducting and choir director at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Richard Carrillo, will put a Festival Choir of singers from across the Archdiocese of Miami to join members of the Frost School Chorale and the University of St. Thomas Choir, to perform this Mass as part of his doctoral dissertation.
This Mass was conceived as a twinned tribute to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception (patroness of the United States) and Our Lady of Guadalupe (patroness of Mexico and all of the Americas), and elevates much-loved Mexican folk hymns to Our Lady and includes possibly the first Ave Maria hymn ever composed in Nahuatl, the Aztec language Our Lady spoke to St. Juan Diego (the "Aue Maria.")
The first commercial recording of this work, which was produced by Capella Records and performed by the Benedict XVI Institute's Choir and Orchestra and directed by renowned international conductor, Richard Sparks, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Classical Charts for its 2022 release, and was named one of the Top 10 Albums for the entire year. It was produced by 27 time Grammy nominee and 11 time Grammy winning classical producer, Blanton Alspaugh.
