Update on Catholic Charities' disaster relief efforts

Catholic Charities continues to help people, financial donations still needed

MIAMI | The Archdiocese of Miami continues to collect funds to help the victims of hurricanes Irma and Maria in Florida, Puerto Rico and throughout the Caribbean, as well as the victims of the earthquake in Mexico.

Here’s an update from Catholic Charities on how those funds have been used so far:

In Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties

  • 9/12/2017 – In the days following Hurricane Irma, Catholic Charities distributed Emergency Financial Assistance to Holy Redeemer and Notre Dame Parishes.
  • 9/17/2017 – Catholic Charities, in partnership with Three Virtues Social Services, distributed food, water, diapers, baby wipes and hygiene products to 250 migrant families impacted by Hurricane Irma in South Dade.
  • 9/20/2017 – Catholic Charities secured a donation of a 53-foot trailer of relief items from Crossroads Alliance, a nonprofit faith—based organization. Partnering with other faith based organizations, supplies were distributed in Marathon, Big Pine Key and Key West.
  • 9/22/2017 – Catholic Charities, in partnership with Three Virtues Social Services, distributed detergent, water, diapers, baby wipes, hygiene products and Publix food cards to 500 migrant families impacted by Hurricane Irma in South Dade.
  • 9/24/2017 – Catholic Charities distributed $1,000 in Publix food cards at San Pedro Parish in Islamorada.
  • 9/28/2017 – Catholic Charities provided $100 in Publix food cards to St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen in Key West to restock food supplies.
  • 9/28/2017 – Catholic Charities hired a full-time Disaster Recovery Case Manager to provide emergency financial assistance and long-term disaster recovery services in Monroe County. It is anticipated that long-term disaster recovery services in Monroe County will last up to 24 months post Hurricane Irma. Services will be focused upon providing financial assistance to homeowners to repair and rebuild homes which did not qualify for insurance or FEMA reimbursements or Small Business Administration Loans.
  • 9/29/2017 – Catholic Charities mobilized three Relief Resources sites in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties to provide emergency financial assistance for Hurricane Irma information and referrals, financial assistance for past due rent, mortgage, or utilities and food cards.
  • 10/2/2017 - Catholic Charities, in partnership with Three Virtues Social Services, distributed rice, black beans and cornmeal to 500 migrant families impacted by Hurricane Irma in South Dade.
  • 10/2/2017 - Catholic Charities, in partnership with St. Ann’s Mission, distributed rice, black beans and cornmeal to 500 families impacted by Hurricane Irma in South Dade.
  • 10/2/2017 – Catholic Charities, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Miami Development Office, secured the donation of a temporary trailer, furniture, generator and portable air conditioners to house the sacristy of St. Peter Church in Big Pine Key. Catholic Charities will deliver and set up the trailer for Father Jesus “Jets” Medina, the pastor there, on 10/3/2017

Internationally

  • 10/2/2017 - Catholic Charities is working with Caritas in Cuba, the Caribbean, Mexico City and Puerto Rico to identify local needs and either ship material goods to those locations or wire money to purchase the goods in country.

Donations are still being accepted at http://www.ccadm.org as well as https://give.adomdevelopment.org/irma. One-hundred percent of your donations will be used for disaster relief efforts.
