Gloria Gaynor to headline entertainment at 'White Gala'

Archdiocese also will launch '60 for 60' campaign to mark 60th

Presented by BelGioioso Cheese, Inc., the White Gala to Honor the White Collar will raise much-needed funds for the clergy serving the Church and Catholic community in South Florida. This formal event (black & white attire suggested), featuring live entertainment by disco queen Gloria Gaynor, dinner and dancing, will support the spiritual and educational needs of seminarians in South Florida.

“Sixty years ago, Miami’s first bishop, the Most Rev. Coleman Carroll, had among his first priorities the establishment of seminaries to train future priests here in South Florida,” said Archbishop Thomas Wenski. “These seminaries have graduated some 500 priests who serve both in the Archdiocese and in Dioceses in Florida and Georgia. Archbishop Carroll’s vision lives on and is strengthened through the support provided by this gala for the formation of future priests to serve us here in South Florida.”

In addition to the gala, the archdiocese will launch a “60 for 60” campaign to recognize members of the faithful in Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties who contributed their time, talent and treasure in building up the local Church over the past 60 years.

Over the upcoming months leading to the 60th anniversary and gala celebration, the archdiocese will honor those Catholic community leaders by featuring their stories on the ADOM website, social media platforms, in the Florida Catholic and La Voz Católica newspapers, and the archdiocesan-owned Radio Paz 830 AM.

“The diamond anniversary of the archdiocese is a wonderful time for us to stop and reflect on the many things we have accomplished, share our gratitude with the many that have helped us reach this milestone, and continue to plan and to serve our community,” said Archbishop Wenski. “The ‘60 for 60’ campaign gives us the opportunity to feature the members of the faithful that have helped transform our community during the first 60 years of the archdiocese.”

Also, during a special liturgy to be held in late October, the Archdiocese will recognize parishioners selected by their pastors for extraordinary service to their communities.

The host committee for this year’s gala includes: Tom & Susan Abraham; Charlie & Maria Arazoza; Tony & Conchi Argiz; Drs. Ada & Pepe Armas; Ambassador Paul & Trudy Cejas; Frank & Joanne Del Rio, Jr.; Bob Dickinson; Paul & Swanee DiMare; James “Jim” Ferraro; Ambassador Steven J. & Dorothea Green; Alberto & Susana Ibarguen; Gene & Andreina Kissane; Keith Koenig; Joseph & Suzanne Lacher; Jorge Luis & Marile Lopez; Manny & Lisette Medina; Cesar Mendoza & Alex Villoch; Carlos Migoya; Juan & Laura Munilla; Frances & Eugenio Sevilla-Sacasa; Miguel & Zaida Sosa; Miguel & Sonnia Viyella.
