MIAMI GARDENS | Msgr. Edward Pace High School senior Amanda Prats has been awarded the Barbara L. Frye Journalism Scholarship by the Florida Capitol Press Corps.

The $2,000 scholarship is given out each year to aspiring student journalists in Florida colleges and high schools. Prats, editor-in-chief of Pace’s Torch Yearbook for two years, was one of only three high school students awarded the scholarship. This past summer, she participated in the James Ansin/Peace Sullivan High School Journalism Workshop at the University of Miami.

“This scholarship is really going to help me pursue an education in journalism and I’m incredibly grateful that I was able to receive it,” said Prats.

Prats, who has already been accepted into Florida International University, is also applying to the renowned journalism programs of Northwestern University, Boston University, the University of Florida, and the University of Miami.
