Archbishop Wenski calls for special collection for Bahamas

Proceeds will go directly to Archdiocese of Nassau for longterm recovery

MIAMI | Archbishop Thomas Wenski is calling for a special collection in all archdiocesan parishes to benefit the victims of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. He asked that the collection be taken up this weekend or the next one. Here is the complete text of the message he sent to archdiocesan pastors.

"Brothers,

"Since Hurricane Dorian, I have been in communication with the Archbishop of Nassau, Most Rev. Patrick Pinder, as has Peter Routsis-Arroyo, director of Catholic Charities for the Archdiocese of Miami. Catholic Charities is soliciting funds to help in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane. However, recovery in the northern part of the Bahamas island chain will be a slow and long process.

"I would ask you to take up a second collection either this weekend or next weekend. Proceeds would go to assist the Catholic Archdiocese of Nassau in its efforts to continue to serve its people and to rebuild after Dorian.

"Once collection has been counted and deposited please transfer the proceeds to the Archdiocese’s Finance Office."
