St. Theresa School inaugurates new Alumni Plaza

St. Theresa School in Coral Gables dedicated its new Alumni Plaza Oct. 26, 2019. The area was in need of a facelift. "Nothing would grow there, and when it rained, it would get very muddy," said the school's principal, Sister Rosalie Nagy, of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles.

CORAL GABLES | St. Theresa School celebrated the completion of its Alumni Plaza Oct. 26, with a blessing attended by over 150 people. The blessing was conducted by Father Manny Alvarez, pastor of Little Flower Church.

“I graduated in 1938, and it’s wonderful to see the improvements and changes to St. Theresa School,” said Edwin R. Brownell. “Keep up the good work.”

“It’s a great way for graduates to be able to show their support,” said Evelyn Brownell Mika, 1984 alumnae and daughter of Edwin.

“The area where the children assemble in the mornings and play at recess was in need of a facelift,” said Carmelite Sister Rosalie Nagy, St. Theresa’s principal. “Nothing would grow there, and when it rained, it would get very muddy. We decided to begin a brick plaza program so that we could improve the area.”

That was back in 2017. Since then, over $70,000 of donations were made in the form of engraved bricks and benches. The west side of the plaza was completed in summer 2018 and the east side in summer 2019.

“Now that the plaza is finished, we are opening up one area where people can still donate a brick,” said Toni Pallatto, director of Advancement at St. Theresa School. “We have had requests for additional donations, so please email me so we can have your brick engraved.”

Pallatto can be reached at [email protected].
