DAVIE | St. Bonaventure School's first year at a Science Olympiad competition resulted in the team winning medals in 13 categories at the Feb. 17 event at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
Teams at the Science Olympiad are comprised of up to 15 students who compete in 23 different events. Preparation involved studying for written competitions and building science projects based on the rules, guidelines, and parameters of Science Olympiad.
Overall, St. Bonaventure ranked fourth out of 18 participating teams at the competition. Winning categories included anatomy and physiology; ecology; experimental design; meteorology; optics; rocks and minerals and solar system, among others.
Participating students included Alejandro De Santis, Mateo Vaquero-Morea, Camilo Bonilla, Kai Terry, Victor Rodriguez, Ana Garcia-Angulo, Chase Mooney, Daniel Rojas, Justin Rosman, Simone Kaplan, Daniel Sheedy, Scarlett Castro, Gregory Osmond, Enrique Sobrino, and Andrew Crease.
