MIAMI GARDENS | Msgr. Edward Pace High School senior Vanessa Perez-Robles was among nearly 1,800 youths at Yale University’s recent Young Global Scholars Program. She attended the intensive program June 17-30 on Yale’s campus in New Haven, Connecticut.
Perez-Robles attended Yale's Applied Science and Engineering session, designed for students interested in physical sciences, computer sciences and engineering. Her small research group focused on advances in harnessing and storing solar energy.
“I was able to work alongside exceptionally bright students from over 130 countries around the world and 50 U.S. states,” said Perez-Robles, an honors student at Pace.
During the week, she lived student style in one of the university's residential colleges and ate meals at its dining halls. And she heard seminars and lectures led by Yale faculty.
Perez-Robles said the experience allowed her to “explore the different facilities that Yale had to offer and build global academic bridges with the others of incredible academic calibers.”
She added that the program helped to sharpen focus on her future path in engineering as she plans to send out college applications.
