Archbishop John C. Favalora, Miami’s third archbishop, pours oil of chrism on the head of Bishop Thomas Wenski after ordaining him to the episcopacy, Sept. 3, 1997.
MIAMI | Archbishop Thomas Wenski invites the faithful to join him in marking his 25th anniversary as a bishop, by taking part in the Mass he will celebrate on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, at 5 p.m. at St. Mary Cathedral, 7525 N.W. Second Ave., Miami.
Archbishop Wenski was appointed auxiliary bishop of Miami June 24, 1997, and his ordination took place Sept. 3 of that year, on what would have been his parents' 50th wedding anniversary (they were both deceased).
On July 1, 2003, he was appointed coadjutor — bishop with right of succession — to Orlando's Bishop Norbert Dorsey. On Nov. 13, 2004, upon Bishop Dorsey's retirement, he assumed the role of bishop of Orlando.
On April 20, 2010, he was appointed the fourth archbishop of Miami, succeeding Archbishop emeritus John C. Favalora. Archbishop Wenski was installed June 1, 2010, at St. Mary Cathedral.
