MIAMI | The funeral Mass for Alexa Duran, the FIU student killed in the March 15 collapse of the bridge near the campus, will take place Thursday, March 22, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mark Church, 5601 S. Flamingo Road, Southwest Ranches.
Duran graduated last year from Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School, which his located next door to St. Mark.
The school posted this statement on its Facebook page March 16:
“The Archbishop McCarthy High School community mourns the loss of one of its own. Alexa Duran, Class of 2017, passed away Thursday when her vehicle was trapped under the collapsed pedestrian bridge near Florida International University. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family and friends. We ask God to grant them strength and peace during this very difficult time.”
Duran’s viewing will take place Wednesday, March 21, from 7 p.m. to midnight at Vista Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 14200 N.W. 57 Ave., Miami Lakes. Burial at Vista will follow the Mass on Thursday.
