Archdiocesan news briefs for May 2021

Memorial Day Mass for veterans

All military families who have lost a veteran this year, and any veteran who has lost a family member, are invited to remember their loved one at the annual Memorial Day Mass to be celebrated by Archbishop Thomas Wenski on Monday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 11691 N.W. 25 St., Doral. The Mass is organized by Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Miami. "We are making an effort to reach out to all Catholic veterans and their families, even if they are not buried in our cemeteries," said Mary Jo Frick, executive director of Catholic Cemeteries. For those who cannot attend in person, the Mass will be livestreamed on the website of Our Lady of Guadalupe, www.guadalupedoral.org.

Concert for veterans, COVID victims

On May 30, at 4:30 p.m., Corpus Christi Church will present an interfaith concert and brief prayer service to honor the American veterans and the over 500,000 U.S. victims of the coronavirus. The concert will feature Mozart's Requiem and Achron's Hebrew Melody, performed by the Sinfonietta Society Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Aaron Kula, with the choir under the direction of Dr. Giselle Rios; pianist Dr. Alan Mason; and violinist Carol Cole for Hebrew Melody. Cantor Lisa Segal from Temple Beth Sholom in Miami Beach will open the concert with a musical prayer followed by Corpus Christi clergy offering blessings to the community in memory of all we have lost in the last year and in honor of our veterans. The concert is free but tax-deductible donations are requested for Corpus Christi Social Services and Jewish Community Services of South Florida. CDC guidelines will be followed with limited seating and the concert will be streamed live on YouTube. Call 305-458-0111 or email [email protected].
