Mother Adela, Pierced Hearts pray at Surfside memorial wall

Participants processed with an image of Our Lady of Fatima

SURFSIDE | Led by their foundress, Mother Adela Galindo, the Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary convoked a gathering the evening of July 7 at St. Joseph Church, Miami Beach, to pray for the victims and families affected by the collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside.

Those present — which included priests, religious and members of the Apostles of the Two Hearts — numbering in the hundreds. Carrying an image of Our Lady of Fatima, candles and rosaries, they processed prayerfully from the church to the memorial wall that has sprung up a block away, near the site of the collapse.

Moments earlier, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and other officials had announced that the search and rescue operation would be halted and turned into a recovery effort, as there was no possibility, after two weeks, that any of those trapped in the collapse would be found alive.

Mother Adela wrote about what happened on her Facebook page, where the video above also was posted:

"When Our Lady began to approach the site, we were informed of the news that were being given. We began to cry seeing how Our Lady wanted us to be there at that painful moment for the families and that her image brought from Fatima was a sign of her maternal consolation. That is when, after the prayer of the Jewish leaders (and) our priests, I was asked to speak and give my words to the families, the press, the crows and the world. The timing was a miracle in itself. Our Lady is the clock of the Lord!"

Visible in the video are Mayor Levine Cava, Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz, as well as rabbis from the shuls, or synagogues, where many of the deceased Champlain residents worshipped, and some of the first responders who have been working nonstop at the collapse site since early in the morning of June 24.
