Cuban bishop says thanks for hurricane aid
Bishop Juan Gabriel Díaz Ruiz, of the Diocese of Ciego de Avila, Cuba, has written to thank Archbishop Thomas Wenski for a $20,000 donation, made on behalf of the Archdiocese of Miami, to aid with post-Irma hurricane relief in the Cuban diocese.
The funds, distributed through the diocese’s Caritas agency, aided 98 families in purchasing construction materials to repair or rebuild their homes. Funds also paid for construction workers, replacement of items such as mattresses, and even the purchase of a home, and land on which to build a home, for two families led by single mothers.
“We want to thank you for all that the money has allowed us to do to help people who have suffered and continue to suffer the consequences of the hurricane,” wrote Bishop Díaz alongside the detailed report of how the money was used.
