Archdiocese of Miami
Miami Shores, FL — January 23, 2026 —Archdiocese of Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski, alongside Catholic Health Services, Catholic Legal Services, and the American Business Immigration Coalition Action, will host a press conference urging President Trump and his administration not to rescind Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti, which is set to expire on February 3.
WHO:
Archbishop Thomas Wenski, Archdiocese of Miami
Dr. Brian Kriedrowski, Catholic Health Services
Randy McGrorty, Catholic Legal Services
Luis Zaldivar, American Business Immigration Coalition Action
Tony Argiz, Member of American Business Immigration Coalition Action
Health care and elder-care workers
Community advocates and TPS holders
WHAT:
The Archdiocese of Miami and its partners call on the administration to act
with compassion and prudence by maintaining TPS protections for Haiti, ensuring
stability for families, safeguarding essential services, and preventing
unnecessary disruption to Florida’s workforce and economy.
WHEN:
Tuesday, January 27
2:30 p.m.
WHERE:
Archdiocese of Miami Pastoral Center
9401 Biscayne Bld., Miami Shores, FL
WHY:
The Archdiocese of Miami and Catholic Health Services would be directly impacted, facing the potential loss of a large portion of their workforce, particularly in nursing homes, home health care, and cemeteries. These dedicated workers are essential to the care and dignity of Florida’s most vulnerable residents.
Nearly 350,000 people nationwide currently depend on TPS to legally live and work in the United States, with hundreds of thousands residing in Florida. The potential termination of TPS for Haitian nationals would have far-reaching and devastating consequences for families, employers, and communities across Florida and the nation. The broader local economy would also suffer from the loss of experienced workers who are deeply rooted in the community.
