Miami... (June 14, 2023) In good Faith Archbishop Thomas Wenski offered a friendly wager to the Archbishops of Denver and Las Vegas, respectively, as Miami celebrated having two-star sports teams, the Miami Heat basketball team, and its hockey team, the Florida Panthers, both playing for national championships.
Offered by Archbishop Wenski were true “tastes” of South Florida – stone crabs, and hand-rolled cigars; in return, Archbishop Samuel Aquila (home of the NBA team the Denver Nuggets), offered bison steaks and whiskey!
Archbishop George Leo Thomas offered steaks as well as Las Vegas’ Golden Knights headed for the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Florida Panthers.
Now the day of reckoning is upon the Archbishop of Miami, as both the Denver Nuggets and the Golden Knights were victorious in the NBA and NHL championships. Stone crabs and cigars are being ordered and shipped to the cities celebrating its victories. Among the good fun were humoring conversations among these three Archbishops as they are together in Orlando, Florida for the bi-annual meeting of United States Conference of Catholic Bishops where all bishops of the US are currently gathered.
One may believe their comments to each other include “See you next year (conference or championship)?” Only the archbishops know for sure.
