MIAMI | Catholics were prominent among the nearly 13,000 who attended the Sept. 9, 2022 game between the Miami Marlins and the New York Mets at LoanDepot Park.
It was, after all, Catholic Night at the Marlins, and Archbishop Thomas Wenski threw out one of the ceremonial first pitches as groups from various parishes and schools watched from the stands.
Also throwing out a first pitch: Jose Dotres, superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, since the Marlins also were celebrating education that night.
Maybe all those good (and holy) vibes paid off: The Marlins beat the Mets, 6-3.
