Chaminade-Madonna honors distinguished alumni

HOLLYWOOD | Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory honored four distinguished alumni - Dr. Deborah Bradley Wilbur, Judge David Haimes, Gregg Rossman and Monica Gallego Nebel - for their exemplary commitment to their faith, dedication to serving others, and their continued involvement with the high school at the annual Alumni Hall of Fame Mass, induction ceremony and dinner held March 9.

Dr. Bradley Wilbur (class of 1974) is a resident of Davie and a neonatologist at Kidz Medical Services, Inc. in South Florida. She is also a doctor of neonatology at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Palm Beach County where her responsibilities include the care of newborn, premature and sick babies in the high risk care unit. In addition, she is an affiliate clinical assistant professor of biomedical science for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University. She has been published in the international journal, Pediatric Pulmonology.

Judge Haimes (class of 1983) resides in Weston and serves as a circuit court judge in Broward County assigned to the Criminal Division. In addition, he currently teaches in the Honors Legal Studies Program at a private high school in South Florida. Outside of his career, he volunteers his time as a coach for youth football, baseball, basketball and soccer teams.

Rossman (class of 1983) is a Hollywood resident and works as an assistant state attorney in the prosecution of homicide trials. He was named "Prosecutor of the Year" in 1999. He is also an instructor at the Broward College Institute of Public Safety, and teaches training courses and continuing education classes for the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association. He has volunteered as a Little League baseball and softball coach and umpire at the Rotary Park in Hollywood. Rossman is the proud husband and father to a Chaminade-Madonna legacy family. His wife, Irene Kulas Rossman (class of 1982), and son Gregg (class of 2012), both graduated from the high school. His daughter, Victoria, is a current sophomore.

Gallego Nebel (class of 1993) worked at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital on the medical/surgical floor before relocating to Orlando. She is the program manager of KidsTRACK at Nemours Children's Hospital, representing the hospital's efforts toward patient-family centered care. In addition, she oversees the hospital's Interpretation Services and Patient Education programs. She was elected as one of the top 2012 "Forty Under Forty" leaders by the Orlando Business Journal, and as one of four national recipients of the Nemours Children's Hospital and Clinic Systems Board of Directors Leonard Berry Award for Service Excellence in 2011. She enjoys volunteering with various charitable organizations benefitting cancer research and support groups.

That same evening, Chaminade-Madonna two Chaminade Madonna staff members received Alumni Appreciation Awards for their continuous dedicated support to students, families, and alumni. The honorees were Joseph Catalano, Fine and Performing Arts Department chair,  and Blanca Suarez, Guidance Department staff member.

Several Chaminade-Madonna seniors - Francesca Rieth, Victoria Molina (a 2013 President's Volunteer Service Award recipient), Julian Pino and Jonathan Heaven - were also recognized at the ceremony for their volunteer service to their high school, parishes, and the South Florida community. During their high school careers, these young men and women have contributed a combined 5,255 hours to organizations and community service projects such as Nativity Church, Landmark Funeral Home in Hollywood, the Hollywood Historical Society, the Rotary Club of Hollywood, the Tri-County Humane Society, Broward Outreach Center, Ronald McDonald House Charities, American Cancer Society, and FEMA Community Emergency Response Team. 

"For so many in our school community, this is one of the best nights of the year because we have a chance to celebrate members of the Chaminade-Madonna family who best exemplify the ideals of our high school," said Marianist Father Larry Doersching, Chaminade-Madonna president.

Chaminade-Madonna established the Alumni Hall of Fame Award in 1991 to acknowledge alumni who have excelled in their personal and professional lives by personifying the motto of the school, Toward a Better World. Since its inception, 102 men and women have been inducted into the Hall of Fame, with representatives ranging from military veterans, government officials, and prominent business men and women, to educators, athletes, and members of the religious community.
