A 'Romans 12 Life' in 2012
Monday, July 23, 2012

I will never forget my first experience in music ministry, and ministry in general, when our Youth Minister handed each of the youth and music ministry core team members a sheet of paper with Romans 12 typed on it, and a space at the bottom to date, print and sign our names signifying our commitment to first seek to live a Romans 12 life before leading and serving in ministry.
This "let it begin with me moment" profoundly impacted my life and ministry in beautifully amazing ways — and quite likely allowed me to take the leap to increase my time commitment to the point of making ministry my fulltime work. Yes, this passage of Scripture is challenging, but it does help to keep all of our feet on the ground and our accountability at a healthy level.
And so I have often gone back to this powerful Scripture while reflecting on the question: If we were all to commit to living the Romans 12 life first, what would happen?
In view of our archdiocesan Synod and the upcoming Year of Faith, what if we embark together on a fun journey into a Romans 12 life in 2012? For 12 days, starting when you see this:
- Go to Romans 12 on your Bible. Read it, reflect upon it, pray it.
- Ask yourself: What resonates, what speaks to me in a special way as I read it at this present moment of my life?
- Ask yourself: In what ways have I been living the Romans 12 life before today, and in what ways might I need to step it up to live it more closely in 2012?
- Repeat for 12 days
- Share your thoughts and experiences.
Who's in? Let’s get our Bibles and go!

One of my favorite verses in the bible is the verse in the book of Revelation where it proclaims he will make all things new. Beautiful to see the Letter to the Romans open up with an invitation for transformation and renewal. With the help of the Holy Trinity, we pray to transform not only ourselves, but those around us. To help renew their hope, their faith, and their love. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you, for challenging us through your testimony. God bless you always.
