My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

In his Apostolic Letter, Novo Millennio Ineunte, the Servant of God, Pope John Paul II invited us to “Start Afresh from Christ,” accepting with renewed confidence the task of witnessing to the Gospel in the New
Millennium that began during the Great Jubilee Year 2000.

Now, a decade later, his challenge to us to “put out into the deep” (Luke 5:4) has lost none of its urgency. In a world in which so many people pretend that they can live “as if God doesn’t matter,” we need to witness by our words and actions that God does indeed matter. Witnessing that God matters – and that because God matters, the human person made in God’s image and likeness also matters – is what we as a Catholic community are about.

The Archbishop’s Charities and Development Drive (ABCD) supports the spiritual and corporal works of mercy of the Archdiocese of Miami through which we, as Catholics, seek to advance the mission of our Church here in South Florida. Thanks to your generosity to the Archdiocese of Miami through the ABCD you help the Catholic Church in South Florida – its parishes, schools and charitable institutions - to continue to touch – and more importantly - to change lives.

As your new Archbishop here in this dynamic and diverse local Church, I ask you to join with me and together with me face the challenges of the present and future with renewed fervor. Together, let us start afresh from Christ – and show that God matters to us, and that those whom we serve – thanks to your gift to the ABCD – also matter. Your generous and sacrificial gift will make a difference. I pray that I can count on your support.

May God continue to bless you and yours.
