Three local high schools competing in state soccer finals

Immaculata-La Salle's boys making school history; Gibbons, McCarthy also aiming for title

MIAMI | Three archdiocesan high schools will be competing this week for the title of state champion in soccer. One team, Immaculata-La Salle's boys, will be competing for the first state championship in the school's 60-year history.

The games will be played at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand, as follows. The Florida Catholic will try to cover as many of the championship games as possible:

  • Cardinal Gibbons' Chiefs (18-1-4) will play the Bolles Bulldogs (18-3-2) Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. for the girls Class 2A championship.
  • Immaculata-La Salle's Royal Lions (22-5-2) will face off against Lake Highland Prep's Highlanders (15-3-2) Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. for the Class 2A boys championship and a chance to make even more school history.
  • Archbishop McCarthy's Lady Mavericks will pit their 25-0 undefeated record, and third-place national ranking, against Montverde Academy's 22-0 Eagles, ranked second in the nation. They'll be playing for the Class 4A championship Friday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m.
