VIRGINIA GARDENS | Blessed Trinity Catholic School hosted local police for an active shooter training on Aug. 12 for the faculty and staff.

The training included techniques on how to apply tourniquets, how to respond if shots are fired, and other ways of responding in an active shooter situation.

Simulations were held in the classrooms with Officer Lewis Mertz acting as the intruder while Detective Darwin Villavicencio, who is also a paramedic, trained the faculty and staff on how to stop a victim’s bleeding.

"It is our purpose and intent to keep our students safe at all times. This is why we requested this training from the police department,” Principal Susy Del Riego said.
