MIAMI| Sister Florinda Bermudez, former teacher and principal of St. Michael the Archangel School in Miami, died Dec. 28, 2025 in Puerto Rico. She was 95 years-old.

Sister Florinda was born May 15, 1930, and later joined the Sisters of the Religious Apostolate of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, (Religiosas del Apostolado del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus). She served at St. Michael the Archangel School during the 1990s, first as a teacher and eventually as principal.

The post also highlighted that after Sister Florinda’s retirement she kept in touch with St. Michael’s and its faculty, taking time to visit and share a meal with former peers whenever she was in Miami.

More than 200 followers on social media reacted and responded to the news of Sister Florinda’s death.

“One of my favorites at St. Michael. She inspired me so much. She truly was a blessing to those around her. She was such a kind, fair, caring person. May she rest in peace and be in eternal happiness,” wrote former alumna of St. Michael’s Isabel Mas.

“I’m so grateful for my years at St. Michael’s and for the fact that Sister Florinda was my teacher. She was wonderful and I will carry memories of her with me always,” wrote Rene Reyes, an alum from the class of 1984.

St. Michaels School added “Sister Florinda leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and leadership that continues to live on in the halls of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School. We are grateful for her life, her vocation, and her unwavering dedication to Catholic education.”
