MIAMI | Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami has started collecting financial donations to aid those impacted by Hurricane Laura throughout southwestern Louisiana. Donations are being collected through Catholic Charities' website.
In a statement issued Aug. 27, 2020, just as the hurricane was hitting the Gulf coast, Archbishop Jose Gomez, president of the U.S. bishops' conference, prayed "for the safety and well-being of everyone in the path of Hurricane Laura."
He also urged "our Catholic faithful and all people of good will across the country to stand in solidarity with the communities that will be hard hit by this storm and to please be generous in providing assistance."
