Back to school 2020: the day in pictures

MIAMI | Archdiocesan schools started the 2020-2021 school year online as scheduled, Aug. 19, 2020. Here's a visual record of how virtual learning is already taking place at some of our schools. We will keep adding photos as they come in.

Below, images of what learning looked like today at a number of schools: St. Bonaventure School in Davie; Our Lady of Lourdes SchoolMother of Our Redeemer SchoolLourdes Academy and Immaculata-La Salle High School in Miami; Nativity School in Hollywood; St. Brendan High School and St. Brendan Elementary in Miami; Archbishop McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches; and how one set of siblings, attending St. Michael the Archangel and Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, "attended" virtual school.

Planning for a return to in-person classes in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Bonaventure School in Davie got an upgrade over the summer, adding this middle school hand washing station and water bottle refill stations.

Freshman Nicholas Kanarek is registered and scanned at one of St. Brendan High School's new Thermoscan kiosks. The kiosks are placed at key entry points throughout campus so that when students return to school physically, the device will automatically scan their temperature with name and picture and allow them to proceed to their classroom. All faculty and staff are already using the system once they arrive to work. The kiosks recognize the face with or without a face mask.

Immaculata-La Salle High celebrated its incoming class on its social media platforms. The school welcomed its incoming freshmen by inviting them to share selfies so they could be introduced to the Royals community.

Above and at right, the Fernandez siblings were all set to learn from home on the first day, up and dressed in their school uniforms and connected before 8:30 a.m.

 

Below, at St. Brendan Elementary School in Miami, teachers literally danced with joy at the start of the 2020-2021 school year, in this video they created for their students.
