MIAMI | A group of 14 students and four adults from Archbishop Curley-Notre Dame Prep embarked upon a Holy Door pilgrimage March 15.
They began their journey at Our Lady of Charity Shrine in Coconut Grove. After hearing some history about the shrine and taking in the beauty of Biscayne Bay, they began their pilgrimage by walking the approximately three and a half miles to Gesu Church in downtown Miami.
For most of the students, it was their first time seeing the historic church. While in Gesu, the students participated in the sacrament of reconciliation and the 12:10 p.m. daily Mass.
After the Mass, the students and their chaperones boarded a bus and were driven to St. Mary Cathedral. The pilgrims were received by Father Christopher Marino, rector of the cathedral.
Father Marino walked with the students through the Holy Door of the cathedral and then led them in the renewal of their baptismal promises. He shared a brief history of the cathedral and invited them to look around.
Finally, Father Marino joined the students in praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet which was led by Oscar Cedeño, ACNE’s director of Student Services, in the cathedral’s Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
The following students participated: Shaina Chery, Tracey Dominique, Esperanza Cadena, Lexander Acosta, Marc Raymond, Styve MBuyi, Anthony Alphonse, Steven St. Ma, Alexander Dorvilus, Miguel Augustin, Richardson Paul, Jennifer Bryan, Kennia Alcindor and Emmanuel Cajuste.
Their chaperones were: Cedeño, who also teaches social studies; Bruni M. Egan, theology teacher and Knights for Life moderator; Marlena Rodriguez, school counselor; and Sister Maria Mmeka, guidance intern.
