MIAMI LAKES | Five seventh grade students from Our Lady of the Lakes School qualified for the Duke University TIP program. Matthew Sarduy, Elizabeth Massiello, David Segall, Victoria Garcia, and Julian Rosario earned this recognition by scoring 95 or higher on a qualifying Iowa Assessment's subtest. Once qualified, students can participate in contests and scholarship recognition programs as well as get a head start on college by taking the ACT or SAT.

David Segall also achieved a combined score of 1540 on the SAT, exceeding the 2012 average high school combined score in the nation, 1498 out of the possible 2,400 points for a perfect score.

Duke TIP's 7th Grade Talent Search is the largest program of its kind in the nation. Since its inception in 1980, over 2 million students have participated. The 7th Grade Talent Search identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. Participants gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students.
