Father Pedro Corces, pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church in Miami Shores, gives a penitent absolution during Reconciliation Weekend 2013.
MIAMI | Hundreds of people availed themselves of the sacrament of penance the weekend before Holy Week, coming out to one of the 36 parishes acting as host sites for the third annual archdiocesan Reconciliation Weekend. Priests in those parishes, aided by priests from surrounding churches, heard confessions from 7 to 9 p.m. March 22 and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 23.
The opportunity to be reconciled to God and receive the healing grace of confession is still available, as every parish in the archdiocese has scheduled times for confession during Holy Week. (Click on "Search for parishes" to find the church nearest you and its Mass and confession schedule).

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, in #1457: "According to the Church's command, 'after having attained the age of discretion, each of the faithful is bound by an obligation faithfully to confess serious sins at least once a year.' Anyone who is aware of having committed a mortal sin must not receive holy Communion, even if he experiences deep contrition, without having first received sacramental absolution, unless he has a grave reason for receiving Communion and there is no possibility of going to confession.' ...
And in #1458: "Without being strictly necessary, confession of everyday faults (venial sins) is nevertheless strongly recommended by the Church. Indeed, the regular confession of our venial sins helps us form our conscience, fight against evil tendencies, let ourselves be healed by Christ and progress in the life of the Spirit. By receiving more frequently through this sacrament the gift of the Father's mercy, we are spurred to be merciful as he is merciful."
