Christopher Columbus High School seeks a dedicated and innovative Engineering Teacher to join our faculty. This individual will be responsible for delivering engaging, rigorous instruction in Engineering courses. The ideal candidate will be passionate about engaging students in engineering design, applied problem-solving, and innovation through hands-on learning experiences while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment rooted in Marist educational values. The candidate performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Archdiocese of Miami.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach Engineering courses, ensuring alignment with the school's academic standards.
- Introducing students to various programming languages and guiding them in building engineering skills.
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that promote engineering design principles, technical problem-solving, and the real-world application of engineering concepts through hands-on, project-based learning.
- Utilize various teaching methods, including project-based learning, hands-on labs, and collaborative problem-solving, to enhance student understanding.
- Prepare students for industry certifications and future STEM-related careers through rigorous coursework and skill-building activities.
- Integrate ethical considerations and cybersecurity awareness into classroom discussions.
- Stay updated on advancements in Engineering education and incorporate new tools, languages, and methodologies into the curriculum.
- Create lesson plans, integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
- Maintain accurate student records, assess student progress, and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Computer Science & Engineering department to refine and improve curriculum offerings.
- Provide mentorship and academic guidance to students, fostering a growth mindset and a passion for learning.
- Support extracurricular opportunities, such as coding clubs, robotics, hackathons, or Engineering competitions and events.
- Actively participate in professional development and contribute to the school’s mission and Catholic Marist identity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s required; master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
- Florida Department of Education Teaching certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Experience teaching at the high school or college level.
- Familiarity with project-based learning and hands-on instructional strategies, preferred.
- Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that emphasize the engineering design process, analytical problem-solving, and the practical application of engineering concepts through collaborative, hands-on, and project-based experiences.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Strong classroom management skills and ability to foster a collaborative, respectful, and innovative learning environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to professional growth and continuous learning in technology education.
- Supportive and respectful of the mission and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church.
