St. Thomas - Men's Emmaus # 45

Saturday, Nov 23, 2019 from 6:30 PM to 4:00 PM - English

Emmaus is a lay retreat put on by men who have themselves experienced the retreat first-hand. It is a three-day retreat designed to provide you with a unique opportunity for personal, spiritual growth and allows time for you to disconnect and focus on yourself and your personal relationship with God.

Q. How long does the weekend last?

A. The retreat begins with registration at the St. Thomas the Apostle Family Center, directly across from the Church, with registration between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22. The retreat concludes at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov.  24, providing you with 46 hours of time for reflection and personal growth.

Q. What should I bring?

A. The most important thing is an open mind and an open heart. You will also want to bring comfortable clothes for two days, toiletries (toothbrush, soap, towel, etc.), and any medications you may be taking. Some of the rooms tend to get a little cold, so you may want to also consider a sweater or light jacket. Portions of the retreat will take place outdoors, so make sure to check the weather. You will be provided with a twin size mattress, but will want to bring a pillow and sheets and/ or a sleeping bag. Everything else will be provided.

Q. What about food?

A. All food and drink will be provided. When you arrive Friday evening, there will be a light meal for those who will not have had time to grab dinner. If you have any special dietary preferences, food allergies, or any other specific needs, please make sure to let us know ahead of time on the application.

Q. How much does Emmaus cost?

A. We request a donation of $125 to help pay for the costs of putting on the retreat. If payment is an issue, please don’t let this stop you from coming. No one should fail to attend due to financial reasons.

Q. What if I don’t have time to attend the retreat?

A. If you don’t have time for a weekend for yourself – YOU NEED A WEEKEND FOR YOURSELF!

Pace High School Open House

Saturday, Nov 23, 2019 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM - English

In today’s world, choosing the correct high school is as important as applying for college. At this age, parents are now looking into primary education as a stepping stone to get accepted into Ivy-League and higher education institutions. Private schools are founded on their academic initiatives and college acceptance rates. Monsignor Edward Pace High School has among the highest graduation rates, with a 99.9% college acceptance rate (the other 1% going into the armed forces).

This Catholic institution is one of the best family-oriented and Blue Ribbon high schools in south Florida. Pace will open its doors on November 23 for its Open House.

Prospective students and their families are welcomed to tour the school with current Pace students, Pace parents and Pace teachers. Sessions are available at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. with free breakfast and novelties provided throughout the morning. Enjoy performances by the championship winning dance team and state-renowned cheerleading squad. Department chairs will have presentations on academics, guidance, athletics and campus ministry. The administration and faculty will be providing information on the academic curriculum specifically showcasing itself as only one of two Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Miami to offer College Board’s AP Capstone Diploma program.

“The purpose of this program is to teach students how to think analytically, conduct research, produce evidence-based writing, and cultivate independent higher-level thinking, which are necessary skill sets for post-secondary education. The AP Capstone Diploma program is simply a manifestation of everything we already do at Pace,” said Christina Lopez, director of admissions.

Prospective families will also have the opportunity to visit the newly renovated S.T.E.M. Lab where they can take a look at the Makerbot 3D printers and student-produced robots. Athletic teams, club organizations and honor societies will all be in attendance to provide information and insight for interested prospective students.

“Pace is not just any high school, but a true family. I am grateful to experience everyday how every student is not only taken care of according to their specific needs, but encouraged always to grow at their own pace. I am truly looking forward to sharing with our new families what being a Spartan is all about,” said Director of Activities Melissa Sanchez.

As a faith-centered school, the Pace community has over 57 years of history and academic excellence. Choosing the right high school makes a difference in how children will operate in the world. Pace’s Catholic education engraves a drive, discipline and initiative that reflects in their college acceptance rates. Visit them November 23rd and experience the difference.

St. John Vianney Online M.A. Program Launch

Saturday, Nov 23, 2019all day - English

This fall, St. John Vianney College Seminary officially launches its fully-accredited Online Master's and Bachelor's in Philosophy Program. ADOM employees are eligible for a discounted rate. Teachers of ADOM schools can get as much as a 49% tuition discount.

St. John Vianney's Online Degree Programs were conceived as a way of responding to Pope Francis' challenge for Christians to be "missionary disciples" who go out into the "existential peripheries" of the current age and engage society in a way that offers the richness of the Catholic intellectual tradition to those grappling with complex issues of our time.

St. John Vianney is the first and only freestanding college seminary in the United States to offer fully-accredited online degrees. As the only freestanding bilingual college seminary in the country, the online programs allow St. John Vianney to better position itself as an instrument of evangelization.

Through these programs, St. John Vianney, the first and oldest seminary in Florida, seeks to reach out in service to the larger faith community in the state and beyond. They are also our way of sharing the seminary's excellent philosophical program of formation as it celebrates its 60th year of service to the Church.

The online programs are being offered primarily to college-level and pre-theology Formation Houses that are looking for a solid formation in authentic Catholic philosophy from a fully-accredited institution in a way that will allow them greater flexibility and control over their community's schedules. They are also open to religious and lay students who wish to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees in philosophy.
