Saturday, October 3 at 10 a.m. in the Loggia. All animals and their owners are welcome!
As autumn arrives, people in various places may notice something odd. Procession of animals, everything from dogs and cats to hamsters and even horses are led to church for a special ceremony called the Blessing of Pets. This custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures.
St. Francis, whose feast day is October 4, loved all animals so much he wrote a Canticle of the Creatures, an ode to God’s living things: "All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures."
The bond between a person and their pet is like no other. No wonder people enjoy the opportunity to take their pets to church for a special blessing. So bring your dogs, cats, fish, horses, spiders, hamsters, snakes, etc...for a blessing by Msgr. Pablo Navarro.
