Festival de cine promueve el legado espiritual de Juan Pablo II

Con estas palabras encontramos el consuelo para la tarea que se avecina. Se nos han presentado estadísticas imposibles y la falta de probabilidad de montar un festival de cine en menos de un año, sin dinero y sólo con grandes sueños. En este estado emocional recordamos a los primeros padres de la Iglesia, quienes solamente eran pescadores y recaudadores de impuestos. No sabían cómo construir una Iglesia que perteneciera a todo el Pueblo de Dios. Sin embargo, escucharon un llamado, creyeron en la causa, y contestaron con acción, recibiendo de esa manera el conocimiento y las herramientas necesarias para cumplir su misión. Estos son los cimientos del Festival Internacional de Cine Juan Pablo II.

El Festival es un acontecimiento interreligioso que se realizará en Miami del 30 de octubre al 1ro de noviembre de este año. En el Festival se presentarán películas de alta calidad con un mensaje que refleje las creencias de Juan Pablo II. El propósito es prestar atención al llamado de Juan Pablo II para una “nueva evangelización” a través del arte y los medios, específicamente el cinematográfico.

JP2 daba una cálida bienvenida a hombres y mujeres de diferentes religiones, y fue un modelo para católicos y no católicos. Fue el primer Papa invitado a una nación islámica para hablarles a los creyentes musulmanes sobre los lazos comunes entre ambas confesiones religiosas. El Festival Internacional de Cine JP2 desea extender la misma bienvenida a los directores de cine de todas las afiliaciones religiosas para que celebremos unidos nuestra humanidad y exploremos la profundidad de nuestros corazones a través de este arte.

Deseamos motivar a todos a que se unan a este Festival y a que lo hagan suyo. Gracias a algunos voluntarios, miembros de nuestra propia familia católica han donado nuestra página web, pues creen en el éxito y en el rejuvenecimiento espiritual que este Festival puede lograr.

Sabemos que el trabajo de Dios nunca es fácil, pero Él es el mejor patrono, y trabajar para Él es un privilegio. Les exhortamos a que visiten nuestro sitio web y se suscriban al listado de correo electrónico para mantenerse al día con nuestras últimas noticias. Les invitamos a que lean nuestros blogs y los respondan. Queremos conocer sus ideas y que sepan cómo pueden involucrarse.

Este acontecimiento puede convertirse en otro milagro atribuido a nuestro fallecido gran Santo Padre. Si Juan Pablo II era conocido como el “Papa del Pueblo”, entonces este debe convertirse en el festival del pueblo. Que la paz de Cristo y el amor de María permanezcan con todos ustedes.

I just want to apologize for not making it clear in my blog that the Archdiocese of Miami is not financially supporting the John Paul II International Film Festival. We are a non-profit and tax exempt pending corporation who are being sponsored through our own own community. My heart goes out to all of those affected by the financial crisis not only throughout the Archdiocese, but throughout the United States. Our festival is inspired by John Paul II who through the most difficult times of his early life turned to art to express his love for God.

We at the John Paul II International Film Festival pray for each and every member of our Mother Church and have faith in God that our momentary light afflictions bring us eternal glory in unity with the most Holy Trinity.

I understand your point, but as Ana has mentioned, the JP2 Intl. Film Festival does not belong to the Archdiocese. The festival has been created for our communities and has been built though prayer and a lot of hard work. I encourage you to go and check out the website so you can learn a little more about what we're about.
I thank you for your concern and I pray that with God's help and Mary's intercession, non of our parishes close down.

Just to clarify: The archdiocese is spending no money - that is, providing no funding - for this film festival. The Church is supporting the project by allowing organizers to publicize it on archdiocesan media.

Where is the archdiocese getting the money to sponsor such an event? I question the timing and the wisedom of this film festival, not because of its subject or contents but because some of us who belong to parishes which have been euphamistacally asked to consolidate with other parishes feel betrayed that the money could not have been better spent in assisting these parishes which are slated to be closed. Will anyone from these parishes be able to attend this film festival? I doubt it because many in the parishes which will be closed do not have a car and can not afford transportation to their new parish homes much less a film festival. I think the arcdiocese should rethink the wisedom of holding such events until it can get its financial house in order and take the gospel where it is truly needed which is the poor of our community.
