MIAMI | When Vanessa Medina, a fifth grader at St. Kevin School, noticed a special need for prayers among her teachers, she put into practice a faith tradition she learned from her grandmother.

When Vanessa was younger, her grandmother gave her a statue of La Virgen Maria Rosa Mystica, explaining to Vanessa that it was so that the Blessed Mother would always keep her in good health.

When Vanessa became aware that some teachers in the school needed extra prayers for their families’ health, she brought her statue to school.

"What a wonderful example of living Christ’s teachings," said Natalie Venedicto, St. Kevin's kindergarten teacher and early childhood curriculum coordinator.
