HIALEAH | The city of Hialeah has designated West 78 Street, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, as Rev. Jos Luis Paniagua Way, in honor of the pastor of St. Benedict Church, who has been there since January 1989.

The ceremony took place after the noon Mass at the church, which Father Paniagua celebrated. Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernndez and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban Bovo made the presentation, unveiling the street sign in front of a large group of St. Benedict parishioners. The renaming was done to recognize Father Paniaguas dedication to the community.

Father Paniagua, a native of Spain, was ordained a priest April 7, 1962 and came to the Archdiocese of Miami in September 1964. Before coming to St. Benedict, he served 10 years as pastor at Corpus Christi Parish in Miami. Before that, he served as parochial vicar in Delray Beach, at Sts. Peter and Paul in Miami and at St. Hugh in Coconut Grove.

Congratulations to St. Benedict parishioners and Father Paniagua. Father Paniagua is a caring, compassionate and humble priest who works very hard to engage the community and most of all to be a beacon of light to all those who are in need. Well deserved dedication.
