Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School located in Southwest Ranches, Florida (Broward County) is looking to hire a qualified and experienced full-time College Advisor for the 2025-26 school year. The College Advisor is for all grade levels, but specifically for junior and senior students, to prepare them for college and help them through the admissions process. This position will develop connections with colleges and universities to help students identify the best fit academically, socially, and spiritually. The College Advisor will assist in maintaining excellent programs by keeping abreast of future societal and college advising trends and needs. This position supports students through the college preparation, planning, and selection process. As a member of a dynamic advising team, the college advisor provides guidance through individual meetings, large group facilitation and parental inclusion. This candidate performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision and tenets of the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.
Responsibilities include:
- Educate students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, scholarships, summer programs, and testing.
- Facilitate periodic college workshops for students and parents.
- Meet with students, individually and in large groups throughout their junior and senior years to ensure students are planning for college and are taking advantage of available resources.
- Meet with college admissions representatives who visit our school and facilitating meetings between college representatives and our students. The College Advisor also serves as a liaison with college admissions offices throughout the year.
- Write letters of recommendation for seniors to include in their college applications and send appropriate materials to colleges and universities.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of the school’s college fair.
- Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with parents.
- Some evenings and weekends are required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Guidance/Counseling or related field required.
- Prior experience with college advising on the college or high school level, or guidance counseling preferable.
- Must be fully committed, supportive, and respectful of the mission, teachings and tenets of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Knowledge and skill in the use of technology and the system platform Naviance is a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar forms is a plus.
- Excellent presentation skills with use of technologies.
- Strong professional collaborative skills.
- Excellent oral and written English language communication skills, including clear speaking voice.
- Must have a professional demeanor.
