Black Catholic revival: 'This battle ... it's not yours'

At the start of Black History Month, and in preparation for Lent, the Office of Black Catholic Ministry will host its annual Revival, Tuesday, Feb. 7 through Thursday, Feb. 9, beginning with praise and worship at 6:30 p.m. followed by the revival service at 7 p.m. The revival will take place in three places: Holy Redeemer in Liberty City on Tuesday; St. Helen in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday; and St. Anthony Chapel on the campus of St. Thomas University on Thursday.
Everyone is invited to experience three nights of praise and worship, engaging prayer, unity in Christ, and inspiring and uplifting sermons. The theme is "This battle ... it's not yours" (2 Chronicles 20:15).
The revival will be led by Father Sidney Speaks, pastor of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Marrero, Louisiana.
Father Speaks is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He was ordained a priest Dec. 4, 1999. Since then he has had assignments in Washington, D.C. and Beaumont, Texas. He also served as parochial vicar at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church in River Ridge, Louisiana in the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
