MIAMI | The "katolika" nature of Miami's Church was on full display during the annual Migration Mass, as a feast of colors, languages and music filled St. Mary Cathedral Jan. 7, 2024 — the feast of the Epiphany.
Representatives of the various cultural and language groups that make up the Archdiocese of Miami gathered once again this year to celebrate their diversity, as well as their unity in one faith. After Mass, they feasted on traditional foods and enjoyed a display of cultural dances.
As Archbishop Thomas Wenski put it in his homily: "The feast of the Epiphany — or the revelation of the Christ Child to the nations — is an opportunity for us to remember that the salvation offered by Christ is universal or as they say in Greek, katolika, excluding no race or nation. If salvation is 'katolika' or universal, then the Church that exists to give the good news of Salvation in Christ, should also be universal, or 'catholic.' So, as you can see this morning at this Migration Day Mass, our Church is very Catholic.”
The Mass is organized each year by the cultural groups themselves, under the auspices of the Ministry to Cultural Groups.
