Maintenance/Custodial Person (Full-Time)

St. Ambrose Catholic Church and school in Deerfield Beach, Florida is looking to hire a full-time Maintenance/Custodial Person. This position is responsible for the execution of tasks that support the operations, maintenance, repair, and improvement of the building and surrounding grounds. Its responsibilities include but are not limited to setup and breakdown of furnishings for events; basic building and repair, installation of fencing, doors, basic plumbing, painting, and structural repairs, lighting, and minor repair A/C and changing A/C filters for the church and school. The candidate ensures that the church's appearance is a positive one. The Maintenance/Custodial Person adheres to procedures to provide a safe working environment including complying with OSHA, state, local and federal laws as well as policies of the Archdiocese of Miami. The candidate performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.
Schedule: 40 hours/week, 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM, with benefits. Employee may need to be available after hours (working nights and weekends) on an as-needed basis.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Property upkeep of multiple areas such as grounds by watering plants and light gardening, and pressure cleaning driveways, pathways, and other areas according to maintenance schedule.
- Sweep, mop, and disinfect all designated areas.
- Replenish soap and paper products and clean mirrors, doors, and bathroom stalls.
- Dust, finish, buff floors, and vacuum and shampoo carpets.
- Maintenance such as changing light bulbs, light plumbing, light carpentry repairs, painting, drywall repair and checking A/C and changing filters for church and school
- Dust all windowsills using treated cloths or hand cleaning items.
- Wash walls and windows as needed.
- Frequently remove dust and debris from high and low surfaces.
- Remove litter and trash from inside and outside areas and buildings using bins.
- Clean rooms, empty out trash receptacles, and take waste to designated area.
- Observe appearance and condition of premises and applicable equipment; report any needed repairs, safety hazards, or conditions requiring outside vendor for services.
- Report maintenance concerns via work order requests to the immediate supervisor.
- Prioritizing assignments, while managing several projects at the same time.
- Clean A/C ceiling vents, clean fixtures using soapy water or other disinfectant cleaners (using a step ladder when applicable) for church and school
- Dust and polish furniture in the Church.
- Keep Custodial Storage areas clean and organized.
- Clean parish kitchen floors, pantry, and refrigerator.
- Purchase supplies and tools with prior approval once a week, being cost-conscious and providing receipts to the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High-school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Valid Florida driver license and automobile insurance for performing some duties.
- Able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving of the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Ability to use hands and arms in installing, positioning, moving, and manipulating objects, and to work outdoors as required, in hot and humid environment, as well as high places.
- Use of personal protective clothing, according to tasks.
- Able to stand for significant periods of time.
- Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of janitorial service and maintenance.
- Good oral and written English communication skills.
- Must have a respectable and professional demeanor.
