Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Parish, located in Kendall (Dade County) is seeking an energetic and qualified individual to fill the part-time position of Sound Technician. This employee is responsible for overseeing all sound and AV equipment needs, functions, and operations for all weekend liturgies, holy days and special events at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. The candidate performs duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.
Schedule: 10-20 hours a week, mostly on weekends and evenings. Flexibility is needed based on the liturgical season and during the annual parish festival.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Manage the operation of the audio equipment and livestream video for weekend masses, holy days, monthly processions, and special events, ensuring clear and balanced audio for all performances and events.
- Manage cameras and video systems for Livestream.
- Set up and break down sound and video equipment before and after events.
- Install and maintain audio and visual equipment by performing preventive maintenance, hardware and software updates and adjustments.
- Responsible for ensuring all A/V equipment used in church, chapel, and all halls on the facility including cables, mics, wires and devices needed for Sunday Masses and parish events are working properly.
- Able to troubleshoot and repair equipment when it malfunctions.
- Set up audio equipment and provide sound engineering for special events including Christmas Concert, school shows, parish festival, monthly processions and other events as directed by the pastor or supervisor throughout the facility.
- Available to assist when needed and for emergencies (usually evenings and weekends).
- Train designated employees or volunteers in the operation of sound and video equipment.
- Collaborate with the pastor and music director to understand their goals for music and sound levels for each event.
- Ensure all equipment is kept in proper working condition.
- Diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions and perform minor repairs.
- Responsible for inventory and maintaining technology supplies and equipment.
- Possess a strong desire to keep abreast with the latest trends and innovations in the technology and audio/visual fields.
- Develop written policies and procedures for all necessary AV equipment and usage needs as directed by the pastor or supervisor.
- Install, service, and maintain other audio/visual systems as applicable.
- Ensure cabling is properly dressed/wrapped/bundled or concealed to maintain a professional ambiance of the space.
- Ensure equipment is consistently functional; working as designed with minimal intervention.
Qualifications:
- Degree or certification in Sound Technology, Audio Engineering, or related field.
- Proficient as a sound technician/audio engineer.
- Proficient in operating live sound and other A/V related equipment.
- Proficient in digital soundboards and livestream (Tricaster).
- 2 years of experience working in churches, live events, concerts, festivals etc.
- Must maintain a positive, upbeat, self-starting, solutions-centered, can-do attitude.
- Must be adept at problem solving.
- Must understand the importance of the parishioners and the community served by Our Lady of Lourdes.
- Must be able to thrive with minimal supervision.
- The ability to easily interact and relate with a wide assortment of personality types.
- Ability to listen carefully and take direction well.
- Ability to manage time and prioritize accordingly.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
- Able to stand or walk for a minimum of 3 hours.
- Able to twist, tow (push or pull), reach, bend, climb and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Personable, professional demeanor.
