The exhibition is comprised of text-based paintings, created from ancient scripture, advertising, sermons, and popular music that artist Daniel Marosi collected during the pandemic. Investigating their implicit authority, Marosi paints short phrases in multiple layers, allowing them to become gestural manifestations of phenomena existing beyond logic. The selection of canvas and works on paper trace the origins of Marosi’s observations of sacred texts and the contemporary relevance of signs signifying nothing.

Dainy Tapia is a cultural practitioner based in Miami. She is the creator and curator of ArtSeen365: a platform dedicated to promoting the visual arts in Miami, South Florida, and beyond by creating and publishing original digital content. Tapia collaborates with several art institutions in South Florida, including the Doral Contemporary Art Museum, the Bass Museum of Art, and the Women Artists Archive Miami (WAAM). She has an independent curatorial art practice and collaborates with artists to support their practices and projects.

Psychotherapist and visual artist Marilyn Valiente received her Master of Mental Health Counseling degree from St. Thomas University in 1989. This will be her second time exhibiting her work at STU.

“Art making, for me, is a healing inner process. It is intuitive and spontaneous,” said Marilyn. “I seek to open the locked door of the unconscious through a play of lines, marks and colors.”

David S. Valiente is a prominent psychologist and sculptor who received his Master of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy degree from STU in 1989. This will be his first time exhibiting at his alma mater.

“I am a psychologist/sculptor who has integrated my psychology background with the themes of my sculptures,” said David.

Both artists have extensively showcased their works of art in the United States and abroad.

Frontline Ministry, to know our Catholic faith and live it on the frontlines

Frontline Ministry is a faith formation ministry for frontline workers such as law enforcement, military, firefighters, public safety tele-communicators, etc. This ministry is led by a team of catholic public servants who have a heart for Christ and mission.

Frontline workers are the first on scene to many dangerous and demanding emergencies. Their heroic efforts are crucial to ensuring the public safety and health of our society. Despite this fulfilling work, it can be very strenuous and emotionally draining to those in the profession. These workers face many challenges in their professional lives that often bleed over into their personal lives.

Therefore, our goal is to provide a faith formation ministry that frontline workers can attend to grow in knowledge and understanding of our Catholic faith, ultimately guiding them to lean on God’s strength when we simply cannot overcome these difficult obstacles alone. We desire frontline workers to know their faith and live on mission for Christ in the frontlines.

St. Augustine is the host parish of the Frontline Ministry though this is a county-wide effort and meetings will rotate through several parishes. We’ve been blessed to have clergy involved that in one way or another have a connection to frontline workers. Our first event is August 18 at 7:30 p.m. at St Augustine Church.
