Miami ... (Feb. 17, 2023) Archbishop Thomas Wenski will celebrate Mass on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at St. Anthony Church, on the occasion of Ash Wednesday.

St. Anthony Church is located at 901 Northeast Second Street, Fort Lauderdale. The Mass will begin at 12:10 p.m. The community and media are invited to attend.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the 40-day Lenten season, a time of penance and preparation for the commemoration of the passion and death of Jesus Christ and his ultimate resurrection on Easter Sunday. Lent concludes with the celebration of the Mass of the Last Supper on Holy Thursday—the first day of the Easter Triduum—followed by Good Friday services and the celebration of the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday.

Ash Wednesday is a day of abstinence from meat for Catholics over the age of 14. It is also a day of fasting—one full meal and two small meals, with nothing eaten between meals—for adults ages 18-59.

In Miami-Dade County, Bishop Enrique Delgado will celebrate Mass at Gesu Church in Downtown Miami, at 12:10 p.m.
