Este 9 de marzo los católicos del mundo entero empezamos un viaje espiritual que culmina con el Triduo Pascual del 21, 22, y 23 de abril, cuyo broche de oro es la alegría pascual, la resurrección de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo.

Las primeras palabras que dice la Iglesia orante en el primer día de Cuaresma le dan el tono exacto para todo este viaje: “Señor, tú tienes misericordia de todos y nunca odias a tus creaturas; borras los pecados de los hombres que se arrepienten y los perdonas, porque tú Señor, eres nuestro Dios” (Sab 11,24-27).

Al oír que se acerca la Cuaresma, algunos piensan enseguida en ayunos, penitencias, y sacrificios. Sin embargo, lo primero que debería resaltar es mas bien Cristo, que viene a mi encuentro de una manera nueva, ya que su misericordia es siempre nueva y por eso nos renueva.

En este primer día del viaje, se nos sella la frente con las cenizas, con unas sencillas palabras. Me asombro de la atracción de las cenizas, que hacen que tantos vengan a recibirlas. Acostumbro ir a una de nuestras universidades cada año, y es la misa que más se llena en todo el año escolar. Creo que este rito de las cenizas revela al corazón humano, que necesita salvación, perdón, y ansía la posibilidad de volver a empezar de nuevo en Cristo. Se trata del gemido que el salmo Miserere expresa tan bien: “Lávame de mi maldad... y quedaré más blanco que la nieve, lléname de gozo y alegría” (Ps. 51, 2.7-8).

En la Cuaresma del 2011 tendremos por primera vez en la Arquidiócesis un festival del perdón. El Arzobispo Thomas Wenski, después de consultar al consejo de los sacerdotes, tomó la iniciativa de convocar un fin de semana de reconciliación. Inmediatamente antes del inicio de la Semana Santa (viernes 15 y sábado 16 de abril) las parroquias estarán ofreciendo el sacramento del perdón, con un horario muy generoso para facilitar el sacramento al mayor número de fieles.

Yo espero que la invitación le llegue a esos católicos alejados, los que no vienen a misa los domingos, los que sienten ira por un maltrato, etc. Yo espero que los católicos prácticos les pasen a éstos la invitación por medio de una llamada por teléfono, un correo electrónico o una conversación en el trabajo, al momento del descanso, etc. Me he dado cuenta que los laicos católicos evangelizan de una forma muy sencilla a través de la amena conversación y el trato amigable y familiar.

Juan Pablo II decía que la santidad es la tarea pastoral más urgente de la Iglesia. Para el bautizado, es contradictorio llevar una vida mediocre, buscando el menor esfuerzo y llevando una piedad superficial y raquítica. Para eso es la Cuaresma, para que al acompañar a Cristo en el desierto, logres descubrir su rostro y encontrar en El vida en abundancia, siendo así bendecido en un comenzar de nuevo en Cristo, Redentor de todos.

Definitively, it is amazing how the mystery of God works through the rite of ashes, which attracts —so humbly—in a powerful way the human heart of our college students who are hungry for Christ, who are hungry for a second chance to start over and meet the extraordinary love of God. To me, the affirmation of "being faithful to the Gospel" brings all of us hope in the future, hope in each human heart, in each life on Campus while we remember that we are God's hands and feet to go and spread the good news.

Tambi�n que rico que nuestra Iglesia ampliara por este fin de semana de abril los orarios del sacramento de la reconciliaci�n que es tan importante para el camino espiritual que empezamos hoy.

As always, your article has so many thoughts to ponder. How true it is when we think of penance and sacrifices, but often seem to forget the only important thing, Christ Himself. Last night as I was reflecting on this Lenten season, that for some reason I find it to be different than others in my personal life, I was rethinking and rereading your your article. Thank you for being so clear. Thank you for being so trueto our faith and the teachings of the Church. Thank you for always be the good shepherd who we can approach.

Muchas gracias por esta hermosa reflexi�n que nos ayuda a prepararnos para el Tiempo de Cuaresma que se inicia el pr�ximo Mi�rcoles de Ceniza.

Muy acertado su enfoque en relaci�n a la "misericordia de Cristo", y muy oportuno para este tiempo de cuaresma. Cuando descubrimos la misericordia de Cristo en nuestras vidas nos hacemos m�s sensibles y atentos a las necesidades de los otros.

Bella iniciativa de nuestro Arzobispo con el Festival del Perd�n! Excelente oportunidad para acercar a aqu�llos que se han alejado un poco de la Iglesia, al que no frecuenta la parroquia.

Nos unimos a esta iniciativa suya que sin duda es fruto de la inspiraci�n del Esp�ritu Santo.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and guidance as we prepare ourselves to start our Lent practices and spirituality.

I strongly agree with you, that as we approach this holy season, the first thing that we should do is to consider our relationship with Christ and how to turn ourselves into a real and wholeheartedly adherence to Him.

Few days ago a very close friend of ours, challenged us saying: "I wonder if this event [Lent] has any meaning today?" My answer was that our answer will depend on the meaning that Christ and the Church has for us.

I strongly agree with your interpretation of the overflow of people attending our Ash Wednesday Masses. We need to do something to convey to everyone the same source of meaning and richness of our profound relationship with God in the rest of our liturgical celebrations.
