SOUTHWEST RANCHES | Had it not rained, a Homeland Security helicopter would have landed on St. Mark School's field last month.

But it rained, so it didn't. But the helicopter was practically the only law enforcement vehicle that did not descend on the school grounds during the first annual schoolwide Community Career Day Jan. 27.

A host of law enforcement officers came to share their talents and passion with the students. Those present included representatives of local fire and police departments, agriculture sniffing dogs from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, officers from Homeland Security, SWAT teams, and members of the Coast Guard and Border Patrol.

The day was made possible by school parents George and Josefina Alas.
