Formation for ‘marriage missionaries’

All “faith-filled, well-formed” married couples are invited to a formation weekend for “parish marriage missionaries” to be held April 27-29 at Our Lady of Florida Retreat House in North Palm Beach. Parish marriage missionaries are couples committed to God and each other who want to evangelize through their marriage. The retreat is organized by Annunciation Ministries. All women invited to MACCW meet

The Miami Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women will host their 60th annual convention April 27-30 in Key West. The theme this year is "The joy of the Lord is your strength." Aside from guest speakers, the convention will include a Mass at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, with Archbishop Thomas Wenski at the Basilica of St. Mary, Star of the Sea. The Mass will be followed by the annual Scholarship Awards and Luncheon. Sunday will feature a SoulCore workout and a 5 p.m. Mass at the Basilica with the installation of new officers, followed by the closing banquet. This event is open to all women in the archdiocese, not just Council members, as well as members of all women's groups even if they are not affiliated with the Council. New American Awards Gala

The New American Awards Gala, "a celebration of diversity and excellence," this year marking Catholic Legal Services' 20th anniversary, will take place Friday, April 27, at the JW Marriott Marquis, 255 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami. Cocktail reception begins at 7 p.m., followed by dinner and awards program at 8 p.m. This year's honorees are Julie Grimes, managing partner, Hilton Bentley; Father Reginald Jean-Mary, administrator, Notre Dame d'Haiti Mission; and Mario Murgado, president and CEO, Miami Automotive Retail, Inc. Benefit concert for childhood cancer

The Jazz Band from Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, as well as other bands that feature Columbus students, will perform Sunday, May 6, between 1:30 and 9:30 p.m., at “Rock Sarcoma Out,” a benefit concert to create awareness and support for the fight against childhood cancer. The concert will benefit the Sebastian Strong Foundation and the Manny Alvarez Foundation, both created by families of Columbus students who died of cancer. Sebastian died while attending the school, and Manny was a 2010 graduate. Both died in 2016. The concert will take place at Open Stage Club, 2325 Galiano St., Coral Gables. Learn about estate planning

“Estate Planning to Die For” is the topic of the second annual seminar on planned giving, to be hosted by the archdiocesan Development Office, Tuesday, May 8, at Our Lady of the Lakes School Auditorium, 6600 Miami Lakeway North, Miami Lakes. Nationally-recognized estate planning attorney Sally Mulhern will deliver a dynamic, interactive presentation highlighting the charitable opportunities available under current federal law. 4 Priests to be ordained

Four transitional deacons will be ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Miami on Saturday, May 12, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Cathedral, 7525 N.W. Second Ave., Miami. Vespers will be celebrated Friday, May 11, at 7 p.m. at the cathedral. Both ceremonies are open to the public. Those to be ordained are: Deacon Omar Ayubi; Deacon Gustavo Barros; Deacon Juan Alberto Gomez; and Deacon Matthew Gomez. 

Teen leaders invited to ‘Thrive’

Applications are currently being accepted for rising high school sophomores through seniors to attend Thrive: The Archdiocese of Miami's Youth Leadership Institute, to be held June 18-22 on the campus of Barry University, Miami Shores. Thrive aims to mentor talented youths in real leadership and personal management skills while equipping them to discern their vocation and to live their faith more fully in the public square. The program is for Catholic youths who actively demonstrate their Catholic faith daily and are willing to make a commitment to serve in leadership roles in their parish youth ministry or a campus program. Due to a generous grant from Our Sunday Visitor, Thrive is being offered at a reduced cost this first year. Of the $450 total cost per participant, $150 will be paid by the archdiocese. The rest will be split between the participant and the sponsoring parish or school, if there is one. Trainings set for Fully Engaged

Training dates have been set for priests, deacons and couples seeking to minister to engaged couples through Fully Engaged, the official Marriage Preparation Inventory for the Archdiocese of Miami.
