The Community of St. John Paul II

Tuesday, Jun 18, 2019 from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM - English

The Community of St. John Paul II invites you to our new prayer and study group inspired by the life, spirituality and writings of St. John Paul II.

Our Mission: To deepen our Catholic faith, to respect and defend the sacredness of life, to live the fullness of the Gospel message, to promote the new evangelization and grow in greater love of God and neighbor as taught and exemplified by Pope St. John Paul II.

As St. John Paul II repeatedly said, "Be not afraid! Open wide the doors to Christ", we seek to open the doors to Christ of the new evangelization in all the dimensions of human life: family, marriage, work, social, cultural, artistic, intellectual, historical... all in and for Christ.

Please join us every 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, at 8 p.m.

Additional projects: Rosary for Life: "Life is a gift, not a choice!"

We are exited to explore and study the rich intellectual and spiritual legacy of St. John Paul II and the Catholic Church.  Many of the writings we are aiming to prayerfully study and live include:

Redemptor hominis, Laborem exercens, Redemptoris mater, Veritatis spendor Evangelium vitae, Fide et ratio, Ecclesia de Euchristia, Familiaris Consortio, Rosarium Virginis Mariae, Dies domini, and the many letters of St. John Paul II to women, artists, children, families, scientists, and others.

We will also examine and study many key Church documents such as:

Humanae Vitae, Gaudium et Spes, Dominus Iesus, Rerum Novarum, Providentissimus Deus, Pascendi Dominici Gregis, Pacem in Terris, Casti Connubii, Aeterni Patris, and others.

We wish to realize the Holy Father's words:

“Make time for study, meditation, and reflection. Use your intelligence well; make an effort to reach correct convictions; do not waste time; deepen the motives and foundations of faith in Christ and in the Church, so as to be firm now and in your future.  —John Paul II, from Go in Peace

Please join us for a rich intellectual and spiritual journey guided by Pope St. John Paul II, the Great!

The Gospel of Life by St. John Paul II

Tuesday, Jun 18, 2019 from 7:45 PM to 9:30 PM - English

The Gospel of Life by St. John Paul II

"Evangelium Vitae," (The Gospel of Life) published in 1995, re-affirmed the perennial teachings of the Catholic Church on the sanctity of life from conception until natural death. St. John Paul II made this a central theme in his papacy, forcefully and eloquently arguing against the modern threats to human life, such as abortion and euthanasia, that are increasingly promoted and justified in our world, in society, in laws, in the media, culture and politics - all part of the “culture of death.” Beginning with an overview of threats against life, past and present, the encyclical probes the many Biblical prohibitions against killing, its affirmation of the unborn child in the womb, and our responsibility to one another’s lives.

Amidst the growing threats to life in our current legal, medical and political climate, this Encyclical becomes ever more urgent and prophetic. It is a light in the darkness, a clarion call for a new “Culture of Life” where the dignity and sacredness of each human being is affirmed, protected and valued, forming the moral foundation for all human rights, and for a just and more humane society, rooted in the Gospel message to “love your neighbor as yourself.” (Lk 10:27)

Please join us in a prayerful reading and discussion of "The Gospel of Life” (Evangelium Vitae) and discover how important and urgent is it’s message for us today.

Tuesday, June 18th, 7:45 p.m. Parish Hall, Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

Grief support group at St. Patrick

Tuesday, Jun 18, 2019 at 7:30 PM - English

St. Patrick has a faith-based grief-sharing group which meets once a week in the evening in the parish office building, from December through May.

The death or terminal illness of a family member can be emotionally and physically debilitating, causing confusion, many disparate emotions and behavioral and physical reactions. The mission of St. Patrick’s grief sharing group is to help participants accept the reality of their loss; assist them as they experience the physical and emotional pain of the grieving process; adjust to life without the deceased or the terminally ill loved one; and find an enduring connection with the deceased and about-to-be deceased so that the participants can move on with their life.

The group is conducted in an open, non-judgmental and caring atmosphere. If you or someone you know might be interested in joining the group, please contact Arthur Gowran at arthurgowran@yahoo.com for further details.
