CORAL GABLES | Carolina Juara  and Giselle Linares, students at St. Theresa School, have been honored by Duke University in its Talent Identification Program for their exceptional scores on ACT or SAT tests. The seventh-grade students were invited at the end of May to the National Grand Recognition Ceremony at Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Duke TIP’s Seventh Grade Talent Search identifies students across the United States who have scored at or above the 95th percentile on a grade-level standardized test. Of 48,569 students who took the exams through Duke TIP — all of them in the 95th percentile of their grade levels — only 2,611 were invited to the Ceremony.

The high scores are equivalent to the 90th percentile for college-bound high school seniors taking these tests, according to Shawna Young, executive director of Duke TIP.

“As an organization, we cherish the opportunity to celebrate each of our honorees for such an outstanding accomplishment,” Young said.

St. Theresa School, founded in 1925, is run by the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles. The school has about 900 students.
