MIAMI| St. Brendan Elementary has teamed up with the St. Brendan Parish community to serve others in the name of Christ.
In keeping with the school program "Knocking on Someone’s Door," which focuses on each grade adopting a charity to serve all year, the school organized a Family Service Night March 27.
Over 850 parents and parishioners attended a presentation at the church given by Teresita Gonzalez, director of the archdiocesan Missions Office. She emphasized the importance of service and renewal during the season of Lent. Meanwhile, St. Brendan students from all grade levels gathered in prayer before participating in service projects to benefit their respective charities.
Middle school students made over 500 meal bags for Camillus House, a non-profit agency that serves the poor and homeless in Miami-Dade County.
Fifth graders made “blessing bags” for the Miami Rescue Mission. The Rescue Mission helps men, women, and children with meals, safe shelter, life-changing residential programs, employment, and housing, resulting in transformed lives through Christ.
Kindergarten made teddy bears with Build-a-Bear to give to Parent to Parent of Miami, a resource center for families of children and adults with disabilities.
Countless other charities also were served, and will continue to be served by St. Brendan Elementary and the parish community.
